What is Page Authority?
Page Authority (PA) is a Search Engine Ranking Score developed to gauge a specific page to predict how well it would rank on Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs). The PA score ranges from 1 and100, the higher the scores the better the chances of a specific page to rank top in the search results.
Keep in mind that PA is not a metric that Google uses to determine which page ranks high in the search results, PA has no influence on the SERPs.
HOW IS PA SCORED?
Page Authority is calculated using various factors such as Domain Authority, links to the page we are checking, etc. All of these variables will be combined together into a single PA score which then can be used to track the ranking strength of a page over time.
WHAT IS A GOOD PAGE AUTHORITY?
PA is only a measuring scale to predict the likeliness of a certain page to rank high on the Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs). Your short term goal should not be to get a very high PA score but to top your competitors PA score.
It is best to use it as a comparative metric rather than using it as a solid score which determines the ranking of a page; use it to compete & gauge your website with your competitor’s and aim to get a higher score than them.
Since it is a comparative tool, there is no such thing as a Bad or Good PA Score.
PAGE AUTHORITY VS DOMAIN AUTHORITY
While Domain Authority is a tool which predicts the ranking ability of an entire domain or sub-domain, Page Authority predicts the ranking ability of an individual page.
DA = Predicts ranking strength of an entire domain.
PA = Predicts ranking strength of an individual page.
HOW TO INFLUENCE PA?
Just like Domain Authority, it is also hard to influence PA directly. The reason is that it is made up of various metrics that in turn has an impact on the Authority Score. This metric is meant to gauge how well a particular page can rank in the Google Search results. Google takes tons of data and various factors into account while finding the best pages of a website to show in their search results, likewise in order to calculate PA score, there are several factors to be taken into account.
The most effective way to influence the PA is to focus more on getting links from other authoritative pages which acts also makes your page trustworthy.
DOES PA CHANGE?
The simple answer to that question is a big “YES”. And since PA consists of several factors and calculations it can fluctuate for various reasons. Finding out the exact reason for the change in your PA score can be tedious. But I will list down the most common factors that might be the reason for the change in your PA Score.
- Highest authority websites growing their links in a drastic way can twist the scaling process.
- Getting links from websites or pages that do not contribute to Google ranking.
- Your PA score is on the bottom end and so your website is directly impacted by scaling fluctuations.
- Your links have not been crawled which would directly affect your scores.
Just keep in mind that the PA Scores are meant to be a comparative tool rather than considering it as an absolute metric.
